Match Report

Match Report - 14 Oct 2012, Stalbridge Youth FC 15* beat Rossgarth Youth Reds

A lovely sunny afternoon in Verwood saw a convincing display of passing football from Stalbridge with high energy levels and commitment from every player which was great to see.The match started with Stalbridge dominating the possession with lots of slick, accurate passing and great overlapping runs. Isaac and Will Coleman combined such passing to provide the foundation for the first goal. The midfield dominated the play with Cormac and Tristan making that area of the field their own with some clever link up play, but despite these great efforts and some great chances we had to wait dome time for the second goal. This was delivered by Isaac with a great run down the left with a tight angled finish. Our rock solid defence had little to do and so pushed up the field to help create chances. Sam and Matt both had sight of goal but Rossgarth were quick to pounce on these opportunities. Captain, Will Oswald did another fine job in central defence, snuffing out the few opportunities that Rossgarth created and ensuring that Harvey had little to do in goal. We also had a couple of debut performances, one of those being Harry Steggles, who came on as a striker and created a few chances and was rewarded with a goal.

In the second half Louis Palmer (2nd debutant) played right mid field and had a fantastic game, making some great runs down the wing and putting in some great crosses which were rewarded with a goal and the man of the match award. Well done. Stalbridge dominated possession in the second half which gave Isaac a hatrick. There was some great passing and overlap play from Ollie Beaumont and Will Coleman on the left which was destined to pay off. In the meantime Ben Siddell, playing up front, got himself to some great spaces and was rewarded with a goal. Cormac, with his impressive midfield display was also rewarded with a goal. Rossgarth did pull a goal back from an impressive strike that Jack Royle had little chance against. In the dying moments of the game, that great passing play between Ollie and Will Coleman paid off. Ollie took the ball up the left wing with three Rossgarth players trying to force him to the corner flag, he cut in, passed all the Rossgarth players and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. Huge performance from everyone in terms of energy levels and intelligent passing play, well done!
