Match Report - 21 Oct 2012, Stalbridge Youth FC 15* beat Bournemouth Poppies
This Sunday saw Stalbridge entertain Bournemouth Youth Poppies at home. Stalbridge played with a slight change in formation with a diamond midfield, on paper it worked, but would it work on the pitch? The answer is, a resounding yes. The Bournemouth defence played very high up the pitch creating a large amount of space and the new formation allowed Tristan Marshall to play some great through balls for Isaac to chase which resulted in an early goal. Stalbridge dominated the early play with some calm precision passing under pressure allowing the ball to be worked from the back to the front. Will Coleman, playing at left back, did this consistently throughout the game, creating some great chances for Ollie Beaumont resulting in a 2nd goal for Stalbridge. Sam Hopkins, in his new role, of holding midfield, looked like he'd always been playing in that position, creating opportunities for the midfield whilst supporting the defensive line. Matt Crosby and Ben Siddell combined well down the right hand side and Matt had a shot from distance that resulted in a well earned goal. There was little for Harvey Simpson to do in goal but Bournemouth did mount an attack that resulted in a well taken goal that Harvey could do little about. More goals came with Isaac getting a hatrick and Ollie Beuamont getting another and Ben Siddell opening up his goal scoring account on the day. The new formation did catch Stalbridge out from the opposition goal kick as they were in a line of 4 from the attack to defence. The Bournemouth captain was a constant threat when Bournemouth had the ball moving forward but Will Oswald won the battle of the Captains convincingly.
Half time saw a change of goal keeper, with Jack Royle coming on for a shift between the sticks and Harry Steggles and Louis Palmer on up front and on the right. Unfortunately Louis was unable to replicate his fantastic display from last week due to an ankle injury, but Harry scored another goal to take his tally to two goals in two matches. Harvey Simpson played in the holding midfield role and put in some great tackles and almost had an opportunity to score a goal. I couldn't keep up with when exactly the goals were scored, but Stalbridge were strong and composed in attack which resulted in Ben Siddell and Ollie Beaumont getting a hatrick, Isaac Stroud-Allen with four goals and Harry Steggles and Matt Crosby with one a piece. In all a solid and well rounded performance across the pitch which is great because we will need to do the same against Longfleet next week. Great result, well done!
