Match Report - 28 Oct 2012, Stalbridge Youth FC 15* lost to Longfleet Youth Cubs
Given Longfleet's current unbeaten run this was always going to be a tough match. Illness meant that we had 8 players who were going to have to run and run, and that's exactly what they did. For the first half you would have thought that it was Longfleet that were a man down, Stalbridge commanded most of the play with some great defensive work from Sam Hopkins, Ben Siddell and Ollie Beaumont. Isaac had two great opportunities that looked like certain goals and 0-0 at half time was flattering for Longfleet. Stalbridge continued to battle with an amazing performance from Cormac Wilcox, which resulted in a well deserved man of the match. Kristian Javes and Harry Steggles tackled and tackled winning the ball and creating pressure on Longfleet. In the 2nd half the legs were weary and the Longfleet no.6, who is twice the height of anyone in Stalbridge u11s, managed to push past our battle weary defence and score 3 times. Ollie Beaumont picked up a few knocks which were testament to the energy he put into the game and at one point Stalbridge were playing with just 7 on the pitch. Jack Royle was consistent in goal, determined that Stalbridge would not lose by a cricket score. Isaac made some great surging runs from his new position of left back, right through the field to the Longfleet keeper but couldn't get the finish he wanted. We play Longfleet in the cup next week and if this match is anything to go by, along with our returning players, Longfleet should by worried. Great perfomance, well done!
