Match Report - 11 Nov 2012, Stalbridge Youth FC 15* lost to Longfleet Youth Cubs
Having performed so well in the league match against Longfleet with only 8 players, there was a certain amount of expectation that with a full squad, this would be a very close fought match. Stalbridge started with absolute confidence which resulted in two goals within the first 7 minutes, both scored from the left by Will Coleman and then Cormac Wilcox; Jack Royle holding the ball up well playing as striker. Longfleet barely got a touch of the ball in the first 15 minutes. Sam Hopkins was doing a great job in defensive mid, stifling any attacks from the Longfleet no.6, backed up by the familiar back row pairing of Matt Crosby, Will Oswald - Ollie Beaumont filled the left back position as he did such a great job in the league match against Longfleet.
Longfleet were always going to be dangerous on the break and the confidence from the early Stalbridge goals meant we pushed a little to far up the pitch and got caught on the break. We went in at half time 3 - 2 down, Harvey Simpson ensured that the scoreline was held at 3 due to some great saves.
In the second half Longfleet pressed on in attack meaning that Louis Palmer had little opportunity to conduct any surging runs down the right hand side. Ben Siddell had a great game in defensive mid, stifling many of the Longfleet attacks. Longfleet went on to score 2 more. so with 8 minutes left Stalbridge were 5 - 2 down. Isaac Stroud-Allen won a free kick from an attacking position and Stalbridge were now only 5 - 3 down. With spirits lifted Stalbridge formed more attacks and Isaac was unlucky to have a late goal disallowed for off side.
If only the Longfleet no.6 had been on holiday this week - still we have another opportunity to even things up in the home leg of the league. Well done, Stalbridge!
