Match Report

Match Report - 24 Feb 2013, Stalbridge Youth FC 15* beat Corfe Castle

Another dry day (is it really summer?) albeit cold for the home leg against Corfe Castle. Stalbridge started well and really kept their shape with everyone totally understanding the full responsibility of their position and the work that goes along side that. This was evident in the early play with Stalbridge dominating position with a great passing game that had composure under pressure. The back 3 (Ben, William Oswald and William Coleman) dealt calmly with the early Corfe attacks and then played the ball on the ground to immediately create a counter attack. William Oswald constantly talking to his defence to ensure they kept their shape, Will Coleman turning defence into attack on the left and Ben Siddell doing a great job filling in at right back even though he was unwell and couldn't play the 2nd half. Sam had a great game in defensive mid, rarely missing a tackle and putting in some great passes to start another attack. Ollie created some early attacks on the left with his trademark surging runs which resulted in a Stalbridge corner. Isaac delivered a great ball into the box and Jack read it well and headed it home for the first goal. Stalbridge played with alot more confidence then they did last week and Sam released Louis down the right and made a great run to then score from a tight angle. More attacking play from Ollie on the left and an assist from Isaac got Jack his brace of goals. Ollie then got the goal he deserved shortly afterwards. Harvey Simpson kept a clean sheet in the first half with a number of great saves and one in particular that would have floored most 10/11 year olds, but he just got straight back up as if nothing had happened. In second half Louis moved to right back and had a great game rarely missing a tackle helping to ensure another clean sheet. It's hard to believe that Lily wasn't on the score sheet. She had a great game, tracking back when Stalbridge were under threat, putting in some great tackles and well executed passing which earned her a well deserved Player of the Match award. Kristian and Harry linked up really well up front and were unlucky not to get a goal. Isaac made some great runs down the left and was rewarded with a goal. It was a great team performance with many outstanding individual performances. All the teams in our league are getting better and there are no easy games. A great result, well done.
